Lay Members
Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children Board (MKSCB) is looking for two local residents to become ‘lay members' on the Board to help build closer ties with the community.

The MKSCB is a multi-agency independent Board which agrees how services and professionals in Milton Keynes should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

To become a lay member, you will need to be able to attend daytime meetings every three months and have the confidence to challenge professionals on the way they work.

Ideally, living within the boundaries of Milton Keynes Unitary Authority, you will have close ties with local community organisations and an interest in keeping children safe from harm.

We value equality and diversity and would welcome applications from all of the community who share our commitment.

Lay members will receive £200 per annum to cover all out of pocket expenses and the appointment lasts for two years. You may not apply if you have been employed by any agency represented on Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children Board in the past 12 months.

This position requires an enhanced CRB check.

If you are interested in becoming a Lay Member please write to the MKSCB Business Manager at the address below giving details of why you are interested in the role, detailing any experience or skills that you think may be relevant (including any voluntary and/or community work that you have been or are involved in) and giving the details of two independent referees, how long they have known you for and in what capacity they know you. The closing date for letters to be sent to the MKSCB is 16 July 2010.

Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children Board (MKSCB) has been set up as part of the Every Child Matters reforms, and requires all organisations that work with children to co-operate to keep children safe from harm. The MKSCB agrees how local services and professionals should work together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
