MKSCB Safer Internet Day 2017 Competition

To celebrate Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 7th February 2017, the Milton Keynes Safeguarding Children Board is launching a competition.

The theme this year is ‘Be the Change: Unite for a better internet’, with a particular focus on the positive use of images and videos online.

We are inviting children and young people from across Milton Keynes to produce a short video, aimed at parents and carers, which provides 5 top tips to help them to protect their own children and young people on the internet.

The competition is open to anyone aged 5-17 across Milton Keynes, but entries must be submitted via a formal setting or organisation (e.g. a school, academy, youth group of faith setting).

The winners will be provided with the opportunity to work alongside a local film producer to develop a brand new online safety resource, which will be hosted on the MKSCB website and used in the training of professionals across Milton Keynes.

Further details about the competition, including how to take part, can be found below.

The closing date for the competition is Friday 3rd March. Winners will be notified no later than Friday 31st March.

MKSCB Online Safety Guidance Documents

The MKSCB have also produced two guidance documents for Safer Internet Day 2017.

Guidance Document: Inclusive Online Safety Resources

Guidance Document: Filtering and Monitoring

These documents will signpost you to a wealth of advice and guidance on effective filtering and monitoring, as well as resources which can be used to support the provision of inclusive online safety education. These include dedicated resources for use when working with children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, children who speak English as an additional language, and lesbian, gay and bi-sexual young people.

Don’t forget to share your Safer Internet Day activities with @LSCBMK on Twitter, using the hashtags #SID2017 and #SID17inMK (let’s make our local MK hashtag viral in Milton Keynes)!
